Chartered Financial Analyst
Both Davidson and Koser are Chartered Financial Analysts, the most prestigious designation an investment professional can achieve. This designation also binds them to a stringent code of ethics and standards of practice which clearly place duty to client above their self-interest.
There are several licenses for individuals practicing in the financial services industry; it is important you distinguish among them to determine which services its holders are qualified to provide. The Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum is the only professional program training individuals to evaluate individual securities and manage an investor's portfolio.
To attain the Charter, a candidate must pass a rigorous three part examination series with a body of knowledge encompassing the following subjects:
Ethics
Economics
Statistics
Equity analysis
Fixed income analysis
Financial statement analysis
Portfolio management
Derivative evaluation
The materials covered in the process require hundreds of hours of preparation for each examination, and three years professional experience are required to receive the designation. The principals of Cornerstone view the CFA charter as the equivalent to a CPA for accountants, a JD for attorneys, and an MD for medical practitioner.
