North Dakota, July 2014

In July 2014, Mark and Scott traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota to research the boom in the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) industry.

The state population is above 700,000 for the first time since the 1930s. Existing landowners with wells drilled on their lands have essentially won the lottery with royalties being paid out on the oil from their property. To learn more about our findings, see our full Research Report.

Almost 11,000 wells have been drilled thus far;

it is forecast that this number may reach between 40,000 to 50,000 total.
